Africa Month Workshop, 28 May 2022

Africa Unite and Cape Town Museum collaborated to host a workshop addressing Afrophobia and xenophobia and how it affects both local and non-nationals living in the Cape. The event was attended by a group from Lwandle Migrant Labour Museum, MAR’s Youth Empowerment (a movement of young migrants, asylum seekers and refugees) and Umoja for Africa. With this event, we aimed to sensitize the youth and increase awareness of xenophobia's causes and consequences. The day was organized and run by the youth for the youth. The day’s programme consisted of an interactive drama created and performed by MAR’s Youth Empowerment as well as cultural performances such as poetry, music, and dance. highlighting the richness and diversity of the African continent. 141 youths attended the event held at the Garden’s Commercial High School.
